Chief Resident Engineer

A Chief Resident Engineer (CRE) for a dam project leads all on-site construction supervision and engineering activities. They act as the Engineer's representative, ensuring that the contractor builds the dam exactly according to design specifications, budget, safety protocols, and FIDIC contracts

Core Responsibilities

  • Contract Administration: Administer construction contracts (usually FIDIC), oversee variation orders, and process interim payment certificates.
  • Quality & Safety Assurance: Enforce strict QA/QC procedures and occupational health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards across the site.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise a blended team of resident engineers, geologists, surveyors, and inspectors to monitor all civil, mechanical, and electrical works.
  • Stakeholder Reporting: Act as the primary technical liaison between the client (e.g., WAPDA), design consultants, and the contractor, providing detailed progress updates.
  • Technical Oversight: Review contractor method statements, shop drawings, and address complex construction issues on-site (such as tunneling or heavy concrete placements).

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education: Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree (Master's preferred) in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Experience: Typically, 20+ years of experience in heavy civil engineering, with at least 10+ years specifically on large-scale hydropower and dam projects.

Skillset: High proficiency in dispute resolution, contract negotiations, and technical troubleshooting on multi-package mega projects.
